Chamber Myths: BUSTED

Check out some of these Chamber of Commerce myths and the actual truth behind them.

Myth #1: You have to attend events to see a return on your investment.

Fact: We pride ourselves on providing perks while you work. Although we know our events are awesome, sometimes schedules get too hectic to attend an event. Take a look at our online directory and let us know who you'd like to connect with. We'll help turn a cold lead into a warm one. In every conversation we have we are constantly thinking of our members. When it's the right fit, we will always pitch your service or product whenever we can. We're always working for our members, even if your schedule gets a little too crazy.

Myth #2: You have to reside in Cheektowaga to be a member of the Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce.

Fact: Although we are located in Cheektowaga, you don't have to be. Do you do business in Cheektowaga? Do you want to expand your customer base? Are you invested in seeing WNY grow? I could go on! It's no secret that Cheektowaga is growing. Your business does not have to be in Cheektowaga to be a part of this growth.

Myth #3: Only out-of-town guests or visitors take advantage of Chamber discounts.

Fact: On our website, we have a directory devoted to discounts for members by members. There's everything from hotels to paint classes and payroll services and to dental plans. Currently, there are over $1,500 in savings! Check it out, I'm sure you'll find something good!

Myth #4 The Chamber is all about parades and pageants.

Fact: The mission of the Chamber of Commerce exists to support the local economy. We do that through supporting our partner businesses with whatever they see fit. We host workshops, networking events, luncheons with distinguished speakers. We work on our member's behalf to help them be successful. Of course, we do throw in a parade or festival here and there, because that's what some of our members like.

Myth #5: Only businesses can join the Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce.

Fact: Although the bulk of our membership is businesses, we provide resources that everyone can take advantage of. If you're looking to check out more restaurants and specialty businesses in the Cheektowaga area, join to attend our monthly NetWorks! series which visits a different business each month for food and drinks, or entertainment. A great way to meet more people in the community!

Each of our partner businesses is unique! You may want something different than the next business, and we can work to make that happen. Reach out by calling 716-684-5838 to find out what a membership would look like for you!

Getting the most out of your Time on the Links

It's not always about your skill level, but building relationships and making connections. Below are some tips and hints to get the most out of your day on the links and come out on top. 1. Networking on the golf course is about getting to know people, not selling your business or product. Instead, build relationships! Learn the stories about the businesses and how the people involved got to where they are. Chances are, you'll find something you have in common that you can use as a talking point later on to stick in their memory. Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce Chair Elect, Mike Hensley of Superior IT, said:  "I take customers out every other Friday during the summer for a lunch and golf day.  For my business specifically it is not about selling anything but more about building the relationship and loyalty, and...
